The Palace, home to 119 residents, is a nursing and rehabilitation center located on six beautiful acres in the heart of Red Boiling Springs. Built on the site and named for the noted Palace Hotel, it endeavors to provide the same warm hospitality that is its heritage.

Aerial Shot: The Palace

The original builder was a visionary who seemed to know what people would need and want as they age. The three large porches offer outdoor environments that are greatly used by residents and their visitors. It is not unusual to see visitors just dropping by as they drive by as the front porch is so inviting. Others may prefer the more secluded enclosed courtyard that is located on the south side. This area is available for private picnics and gatherings.

The front porch

One of the most charming aspects of the building itself is the large lobby and dining room. With it’s soaring windows, light floods the area which is a favorite of those who gather to visit with guests, keep an eye on the baby birds in the aviary, check out the aquarium or listen to a pianist. It’s also a preferred location for simple people watching.

The Palace is one of the few facilities in the state that offers many private rooms with private baths, another forethought of the founders. Private rooms are rare in today’s long term care facilities and The Palace is pleased to offer such accommodations.

Currently in a phase of redecoration, the facility is a warm, inviting alternative to home. We encourage those who my be considering long term care or in need of rehabilitation services to drop by or call and schedule an appointment by calling;
Annette Gilpatrick, Admissions Coordinator at Toll-free 1-800-295-7203 or (615) 699-2238.

The Palace

It’s been said, “A picture is worth a thousand words.” This picture then speaks volumes. Indeed, its very essence IS The Palace.

A licensed administrator manages all aspects of the facility. The administrator of
The Palace is degreed in health care management and has met all state and federal requirements. Her family’s long history of involvement with health care along with her own personal commitment to the elderly has poised her to lead her team to success, as evidenced by continued excellent surveys by the state and customers.

The Palace is honored to have the following physicians who direct care and treatment:

Hanna Ilia, M.D.
Medical Director
Lafayette, Tennessee
Kimberly Eakle, M.D.    Gamaliel, Kentucky
Olufemi Odunusi, M.D. Lafayette, Red Boiling Springs, Gallatin
Tony Carter, M.D. Tompkinsville, Kentucky
Michael Carter, M.D. Tompkinsville, Kentucky
Phillip Hunt, M.D. Lafayette, TN
Richard Rutherford, M.D. Carthage, TN

The Palace offers a full-service rehabilitation program. Physical therapy is available for a broad range of conditions that require this service. These may include treatment for a short-term acute condition such as a fractured hip or for decline in functioning brought on by an illness such as pneumonia. There are many other ailments that may require therapy.

Occupational therapy is available for those residents who are experiencing a decline in the ability to use or control the upper portion of their bodies. A resident recovering from a stroke may require special attention in order to be able to feed themselves again. Like physical therapy, occupational therapy covers a broad range of conditions.

Speech and swallowing therapy are also available. An emphasis on speech may be required for a person recovering from a stroke, head injury or one of many other conditions resulting in difficulty speaking. A speech therapist is also trained to identify and treat swallowing difficulties and for decline in mental status that may affect a resident’s ability to eat.

Restorative nursing services are available for residents who no longer meet the criteria for rehabilitation service. This program is provided by a team of nursing employees who have been trained in care that prevents decline in functional skills when a person has been discharged from therapy services.

The rehabilitation staff of The Palace is unique in that they are not required to work elsewhere by the company, as is the routine of most long-term care facilities. The therapists on staff are a committed team who prefer to commit to one group of patients. This choice is evidence of their commitment to providing a stable continuum of care. They are especially proud when a resident is discharged after a successful rehabilitation program.

Almost every person residing in health care facilities require significant medical treatment, some more than others. However, there is no medicine that does as much as the bright, shining presence of young volunteers and visitors. The Palace is located in the heart of the small community where large and small groups come to share their lives. The beauty in the face of a small child is truly a tonic that is as good for the heart of the older person as well as that of the child.

Family involvement is crucial to the adjustment and comfort of each resident. Families are expected to play a key role during the admission process. They are invited and encouraged to participate in individual care planning sessions that are held at least quarterly or more often as needed by the condition of the resident. They are welcome to attend all of the large facility events and most of them do so. Many become volunteer and advocates for all residents. The staff is pleased to recognize such people with the honor of Family of the Month.

The Palace recognizes that there are times family members are unable to visit due to lack of transportation. In some occasions, if the primary caregiver is unable to get to the facility, The Palace will provide transportation in order to see that each resident continues to receive the love and support of absent family members. Each request of family/friend transportation is assessed in order to ensure that criteria for such transportation is met.

Life-long natives of Red Boiling Springs feel right at home as they share one another’s companionship and enjoy the many visitors who find it easy to turn into the parking area and come up on the long front porch. They have seen the changes through the years and were there during the boomtown days of the town. They, like their mothers and fathers made the decision to remain in Red Boiling Springs. They know the value of being known, of the relationships that grow and strengthen through small town living.

The residents of The Palace have the opportunity participate in a wide range of activities, both group and individual.

The Macon County Fair is recognized each year as one of the best county fairs in the state. The residents of The Palace can testify to that. Our residents look forward to boarding The Palace van and traveling the short distance to Lafayette with employees and volunteers who also enjoy the day. They tour the Women’s building, enjoy the rides, attend the shows, and of course, the food.

The Octoberfest, held annually since 1982 has been one of the community’s biggest events. No one enjoys it more than the facility’s residents who often choose to dress in Halloween costumes.

Holiday events throughout the year are planned carefully by staff and looked forward to by residents and families. The large resident and family meals are so well attended that the facility must often borrow tables and chairs in order to seat all who have made reservations.

The Loving Angel program begins when each new resident enters The Palace. Volunteer employees are assigned by the Social Service Director who pairs them with the new admission. These dedicated and empathetic employees are required to make frequent visits, to follow up routinely with families, and to support the resident in a manner to enhance their comfort and promote positive adjustment. You will be able to identify The Palace Loving Angels by the small blue angel pins they proudly wear.

Employees of The Palace are committed to supporting the community with particular emphasis on health care needs. The facility has been honored for the last five years by the Relay for Life project which combats cancer. Employees are also active in the Lion’s Club, Macon County Health Council, Red Boiling Springs Tourism projects, Chamber of Commerce, Macon Helps, and Macon County Senior Citizens HELP, among others.

Smiling faces all around.

Helpful friendly employees are eager to be of assistance, whether it is nursing services, social services, activities, dietary services, housekeeping, or laundry services. Each employee has been trained in the gentle art of caring. Their hard work and commitment shows in the faces of resident throughout the facility.
