Deputy Register (Part Time)

The principal duty of the Macon County Register of Deeds is to register (record) deeds and other instruments required by law or allowed to be filed by law.  This includes items such as deeds, powers of attorney, mortgages, marriage settlements, plats, leases, wills, military discharges, and bankruptcy petitions.

The Register is responsible for collecting fees for registering all documents.  The fee varies based on the type of document and how long it is.

The Register is also responsible to collect taxes on the sale of real estate.

The Register also collects taxes on recordings which evidence a debt.  This would include mortgages, conditional sales contracts and fixture filings under the Uniform Commercial Code.
